Corey Worthington back in the party game and bringing ‘kickarse’ event to Melbourne

A DECADE after creating suburban chaos as a teenager with an out-of-control backyard shindig, Corey Worthington is still in demand as a celebrity party starter and says he’s planning to bring a ‘kickarse’ event to Melbourne.

A DECADE after creating suburban chaos as a teenager with an out-of-control backyard shindig, Corey Worthington is getting back into the party business.

At 27, Worthington, who is competing in Channel 9’s Australian Ninja Warrior, is married, buffed up, heavily tattooed, and business-minded, all while still in demand as a celebrity firecracker who can get a party started.

“Ten years on and it is still going,” he said.

“It is ridiculous how many emails and approaches I get through Facebook to go to parties.

“A lot of them are to go to house parties which I have to stay away from because of the age group. People have to realise I am a lot older now and I have got more into the club scene.

“Someone reached out a couple of days ago and they want to fly me to Philly (Philadelphia, USA) to a party, a big underground warehouse, that they are doing.

“Last year someone wanted to fly me to Switzerland for a New Year’s party.

“I have had a lot of people offer me a lot of things and I have to work out which ones are legit. I have learned to say ‘show me a contract’.”

Worthington became an instant antihero when in January 2008, aged 16, he hosted a house party while his blindsided parents were interstate. He put the invite out to his friends on MySpace and ended up with hundreds of drunk hoons turning up to the Narre Warren address creating havoc and infuriating neighbours and police.

An appearance on A Current Affair where he refused to take off his bug-eyed, yellow rimmed sunglasses turned him into in a pin-up for belligerent teens.

“It was crazy, but me being 16 at the time, you just have to roll with it,” he said.

“I have got a lot of hate over the years — ‘You are a dickhead, take

your sunnies off’ — but I just laugh it off. It has never got to me at all because I say to people ‘what would you have done different? You might not have worn the yellow sunnies?’, well that is what sold it.

“I would not have done anything different. I had a great time and hopefully I can still keep going on with it, that is the plan.”

Worthington’s post-party life included a stint as a DJ and an appearance on Big Brother.

“I have done quite well,” he said.

“When I was younger I wasn’t that smart. When you went out you shouted all your friends and with Big Brother instead of having one friend I ended up flying eight or nine friends over with me. I have wised up a bit and invested; put my money into the property market.”

He is now working on an event management business and an app while renovating his home.

“I am surrounding myself with good people and am hoping to bring Melbourne a kick arse event at the end of the year,” he said.

As for his infamous sunnies, he still has them.

“I have two pairs actually. I have the original ones and I have another pair that I got about a week after the party,” he said.

“I still wear them out, but I keep the original pair safe.”

Still based in Melbourne’s south eastern suburbs, Worthington said his love of fitness and climbing had led him to taking part in Ninja Warrior.

“Who doesn’t like jumping through the air and climbing things, it is me in general,” he said.

“When I watched the first season I was spewing because I had no idea about it, so when the second season came around I knew I would go for it.”

Australian Ninja Warrior premiers Sunday, July 8 at 7pm on Channel 9.
