Neighbours star Jodi Gordon says her sobriety is the most important thing in her life and has made her a better person.

Gordon, who played Elly Conway on the much loved soap, acknowledged last year that “alcohol is my poison” and sought help which included rehab treatment in April.

“As a mother, as a friend, as a daughter and a sister, all of those wonderful things, it is kind of impossible for me to operate as my best self if I am not sober,” Gordon said.

“My sobriety is the most important thing for me today if I want to function at 100 per cent in every other aspect of my life.

“I want to be the best version of myself and to do that, for me, it is being sober.

“It is so worth it, I am so grateful for everything I have got today. My life couldn’t be better, the most wonderful things are happening.

“Life changes dramatically just from changing one thing; make that change and everything else changes.”

As she approaches her one year of sobriety milestone, Gordon said making and maintaining the changes to her life had taken work.

“The first year is very difficult, it is quite up and down,” she said.

“I try and surround myself with people who know more than me, who paved the way before me, who are a great support network for me, who I can rely on, and there are a lot of them.

“There are so many mums and dads and people in general going through what I am going through and I take my hat off to them because I know how hard it is.

“There is light at the end of the tunnel, it is all worth it and It is just one day at a time.”

With her past year focused on “health, wellness, well being,” part of that has included her ambassador role with Life Botanics vitamins.

“It is great to be aligned with a brand that really fits, that feels so authentic and to be supported on my own journey, that feels really great,” she said.

“It has been an amazing year with Life Botanics. They started with three products in Coles and now have 12 and they are affordable. I have loved working with them.”

Gordon did not rule out a return to Ramsay Street.

“There have been conversations, yes,” she said.

“So, who knows, watch this space.”
