Hollywood superstars Zac Efron and John Cena are set to film their new movie in Melbourne next year.

Heart-throb Efron and WWE star Cena will be on location for comedy movie Ricky Stanicky at various sites around the city in February and March.

Channel 9 presenter Tony Jones says he turned down an offer for his house to featured in the R-rated comedy.

Jones said he would have needed to move furniture out and relocate for an unspecified amount of time.

“The house isn’t big enough for Zac Efron and Cena and me,” he joked.

“We’ve seen a few Zac Efron movies and he just doesn’t look after himself.

“We’ve had a renovation done and we thought about it, they were going to compensate us, but we just thought no.”

Some residents in Kensington received a letter about possible use of their houses for a minimum three-day period.

The property would then be photographed by the location manager and sent to the director and creative team for consideration.

Ricky Stanicky is a movie directed by Peter Farrelly who was behind There’s Something About Mary and Green Book.

The synopsis reads: “As teenagers, four friends create a fictitious character, ‘Ricky Stanicky’, to get them out of sticky situations. It’s a lie that the boys find irresistible and it continues to come in handy into their adult lives. But when their partners become suspicious they’re forced to hire a washed-up, self destructive actor to bring ‘Ricky’ to life with dire, yet hilarious consequences”.

Over an eight-week period it will be filmed entirely in Melbourne, which will double for Providence, Rhode Island, USA and supported by the state government developing agency, VicScreen.

Efron is no stranger to Australia having spent many months here last year shooting for his Netflix docuseries, Down To Earth.

The Greatest Showman and High School Musical actor swam with dolphins and raved about many of the places he visited, spending much of his time in Byron Bay where he struck up a romance with Vanessa Valladares.

Cena, who was engaged to fellow WWE superstar Nikki Bella, has successfully turned to acting, appearing in blockbuster movies Trainwreck and Sisters.
