Triple M’s parent company Southern Cross Austereo has broken its silence on an AFL Grand Final incident involving breakfast host Marty Sheargold.
Sheargold left his seat at halftime after complaints from guests about his behaviour. The station denies he was told to go.
He is now taking a break to spend more time with family.
An SCA spokesperson told the Herald Sun on Tuesday: “Marty Sheargold left the AFL grand final at halftime of his own accord. We will continue to support Marty’s request for personal leave to spend time with his family and we look forward to having him back on air soon.”
The Herald Sun understands several corporate guests of SCA at the Grand Final were offended by some crude remarks and language.
Since then the station has apologised to a number of those guests but only publicly acknowledged the incident on Tuesday.
Sheargold continued working on his namesake show after the incident but last week was absent.
Anchor Troy Ellis has taken the reins along with Anthony “Lehmo” Lehmann and producer Loren Barry.
The Marty Sheargold Show rated 5.8 in the most recent survey but has been buoyed by high catch up figures.
Sheargold’s absence has been a talking point in radio circles and also at the industry ACRA Awards on Saturday night.
The popular comedy figure makes appearances on Channel 10’s Have You Been Paying Attention and is in the cast of ABC comedy Fisk.
