Liberal deputy Sam Groth reveals bold bid to bring popular golfing tournament to Melbourne

Victorian deputy Liberal leader Sam Groth has launched an audacious bid to bring LIV Golf to Melbourne, hoping to steal the major event from Adelaide.

Victorian deputy Liberal leader Sam Groth has confirmed he’s launched an audacious bid to snatch LIV Golf from Adelaide.

The event which launched under Greg Norman’s leadership two years ago at The Grange Golf Club, is locked in until next year.

Groth, who partied with influencer Bec Judd at Dom Dolla on Friday night, was watching the action on The Watering Hole 12th party hole on Saturday alongside powerbrokers Norman, David Evans and South Australian premier Peter Malinauskas.

Mr Groth said he had met with league powerbrokers with an eye to bringing the event to Melbourne, if elected to government in 2026.

“I’ve met them while I’ve been over here, absolutely,’’ Groth told the Herald Sun.

“They’re happy here but it’s a pretty good event and would fit in well within the Victorian calendar.”

Groth and Judd, a vocal critic of the Allan Government over its failure to curb spiralling youth crime in Melbourne, partied at the course with Groth’s wife Britt and Judd’s best friend Jessie Roberts. “Crew,’’ Judd posted on a picture of the four.

Two prominent figures who were at the event on Saturday said Groth had hatched a plan that was out of line and Adelaide had earnt the right to continue hosting the event.

“To who?” said Adelaide football star Taylor Walker.

“It won’t be going to Melbourne because we’ve nailed it here and everyone loves it.

“We’re loyal and always turn out to support. This is the best sporting event in Australia.”

TV host Karl Stefanovic, who enjoyed the action at Ripper House on Friday and at the Cellar Door on Saturday with his wife Jasmine, said it had to remain in Adelaide.

“I think it’s uniquely Adelaide and it would be a shame to go anywhere else,’’ he said.

“It’s so well run and such a great vibe for the city. Any excuse to get down to Adelaide, I just love it here. The only trouble is even for me there’s a danger of having too good a time.”

Other guests of Ripper House included snowboard champion Scotty James who is back in Australia for a week to visit family, actor Josh Heuston, Count Nikolai of Monzepat, sexologist Chantelle Otten with partner and former tennis champion Dylan Alcott, and model Jordan Stenmark.
