Marty Sheargold has emerged for the first time since taking extended leave from his radio program.

The Triple M host requested time off in mid October after an incident at the AFL Grand Final, citing mental exhaustion and the need to spend time with family.

On Friday Anthony “Lehmo” Lehmann, who has been filling in on The Marty Sheargold Show, posted a picture of the pair at a boys lunch along with Adam Rozenbachs, Titus O’Reily and Tom Gleeson.

“It’s the inaugural Christmas lunch for the sexy bald man club #helloladies,” Lehmo wrote.

A smiling Sheargold was also out on Thursday with his producer Loren Barry who posted a picture of them beside sports commentary legend Bruce McAvaney.

The Instagram post was flooded with well wishes and warm sentiments for Sheargold, with many saying they are missing him on air.

Triple M’s parent company Southern Cross Austereo is expecting him to return to the show on January 15 next year.

Sheargold will also co-headline a show with The Comedians, an all-star ensemble alongside Mick Molloy, Sam Pang and Lawrence Mooney, in February.

He requested time off following the grand final incident when he left the match at half-time after complaints from guests about his behaviour.

Sheargold released a statement in October.

“I just wanted to let people know that I’ll be taking an extended break from work, with the very kind and compassionate permission of my employers, who have been generous in their understanding of my need for a break,’’ the statement said.

“I think it’s important for people like myself who have a public Voice to admit that I am exhausted mentally from my range of commitments across TV, radio and live shows, in an attempt to continue to remove some of the roadblocks and stigma around mental health.

“I need to set aside some time to get my work/life balance back into something that feels better than it has over the last couple of years. Thank you to everyone who has reached out, your support has been welcome and enriching. Talk soon. Marty.”

In his absence Sheargold’s show has been anchored by Troy Ellis with Lehmo and Barry.

The Marty Sheargold Show, which started in January 2021, has recorded moderate but improving results in the radio ratings.

Sheargold makes appearances on Channel 10’s Have You Been Paying Attention and is in the cast of ABC comedy Fisk.
