Nick Kyrgios’ withdrawal from Wimbledon continues a horror run of bad luck for the talented Aussie.
Since he had to pull out of the Australian Open in January with a knee injury he’s had many private and professional matters to contend with.
A day after withdrawing from the Australian Open, the tennis star was embroiled in a police investigation after he was photographed riding an e-scooter without a helmet through the streets of Melbourne, dinking his girlfriend on the back.
In February, Kyrgios had an assault charge dismissed by a magistrate after he pleaded guilty to shoving his ex-girlfriend Chiara Passari in 2021.
And in May, extraordinary details emerged about his mother being threatened at gunpoint when an alleged offender carjacked her and stole Kyrgios’ luxury green Tesla in Canberra.
Ms Kyrgios was “visibly shaken and frightened”, telling police “she was so fearful that he was going to return to the house and blow a hole in the door”.
Later that month Canberra-born Kyrgios revealed his pain after his grandmother passed away.
“Seems like I can’t catch a break right now,” he wrote on social media.
“RIP Yiayia, the best we could ask for. Go enjoy your time with Papou now.”
“Yiayia” is Greek for grandmother.
A month before the Australian Open, Kyrgios’ girlfriend, Costeen Hatzi, was hospitalised in Mexico with a kidney infection.
Hatzi, who has been dating the controversial tennis player since December 2021, posted that she was “heartbroken” a wrist injury had forced him to pull out of this month’s Wimbledon tournament after he made the final last year.
“I tried my hardest to be ready after my surgery ... during my comeback I experienced some pain in my wrist during the week of Mallorca,’’ he wrote.
“I’ll be back, and as always, I appreciate the support from all my fans.”
But the couple enjoyed some reprieve from the bad luck, travelling through Spain, Germany and the UK.
