Tennis star Nick Kyrgios has been busted flouting road rules in Melbourne.

Kyrgios was snapped riding an e-scooter without a helmet on Elizabeth St on Sunday with his girlfriend, Costeen Hatzi, on the back.

A green helmet could be seen attached to the Uber Lime e-scooter as Ms Hatzi wrapped her arms around Kyrgios’ chest.

Kyrgios took aim at reports of his illegal act on social media.

“Such a nanny state,” basketball champ Andrew Bogut tweeted.

“Fine him for not taking his own safety seriously.”

Kyrgios replied: “Nah (sic) it’s too much now”.

Tennis Australia boss Craig Tiley told Kyrgios to “wear a helmet” on 3AW.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said they were aware of the matter.

“Although it’s unclear when the image was taken, Melbourne Highway Patrol, now that they’re aware, will make inquiries in relation to the incident,” she said.

Victoria Police chief Shane Patton confirmed they would reach out to Kyrgios on Monday through Tennis Australia.

In Victoria, a helmet must be worn at all times while riding an e-scooter and failing to wear one could result in a $227 fine.

E-scooters are also limited to one rider only.

Pillion passengers are not allowed and could result in a fine of $182.

It comes as the Herald Sun revealed a total of 827 e-scooter infringements were issued by Victoria Police in the 12-month period between December 1, 2021 and November 30, 2022.

Of the penalties, 208 were for failure to wear a helmet, 275 for riding on a footpath and 136 for carrying more than one person.

Kyrgios announced his withdrawl from the Australian Open on Monday afternoon.
