A who’s who of billionaires, business identities and socialites are among the heavy hitting crew joining trucking magnate Lindsay Fox for his 85th birthday celebrations.
The 400-odd guest list on the 12-day cruise from New York to Montreal this week is estimated to be costing up to $5m.
Those on board will include billionaires Andrew “Twiggy” Forrest, Solomon Lew and John Gandel, along with footy club presidents Andrew Bassat and Luke Sayers, infrastructure leader Rod Eddington, Melbourne Lord Mayor Sally Capp, Linfox board members Bill Kelty and Simon Crean, and presenter Eddie McGuire who will host some of the festivities, according to The Financial Review.
Fox’s actual birthday was in April, with the cruise being his party for friends and family. It’s believed guests will pay their own way to get there.
On board the 650 feet, MV Seabourn Quest, there will also be a pyjama party as revellers enjoy the pool deck, observation bar, sky deck, piano bar, plus various bistros and restaurants.
Most of the guests said they couldn’t wait to go. Capp, who has an upcoming work trip to Argentina, said she was taking personal leave to attend.
“My husband, Andrew, particularly, has been lifelong friends with the Foxes and they are great family mates for me as well and we are really excited to celebrate Lindsay’s big milestone birthday,” she told the Sunday Herald Sun.
St Kilda President Bassat and Carlton president Sayers are also free after their sides missed out on the top eight and a final’s berth.
It’s believed AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan had to decline due to footy commitments.
Former Collingwood president McGuire told The Australian Financial Review that he is “right for the footy” if Collingwood’s winning run continues. He is expected to be back by the second week of the finals.
Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews is also said to have been invited but couldn’t attend.
In April Fox donated $100m to the National Gallery of Victoria for the NGV Contemporary, and in June joined Victorian Premier Andrews and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for the announcement of the new Paula Fox Melanoma and Cancer Centre.
