Influencer account Celeb Spellcheck claims to have had insane buyout offers

Melbourne’s anonymous ‘Gossip Girl’ account that shamed celebs like Bec Judd before vanishing, has resurfaced with a big claim.

Instagram influencer disrupter Celeb Spellcheck claims it was offered a five figure sum to buy the account.

After posting a goodbye in April, it has resurfaced recently with curious old posts of celebrities.

The popular anonymous account, with 152,000 followers, made its name by posting influencer gaffes, typos and dodgy behaviour.

“When I announced my retirement the amount of offers I got was insane!” the mystery author, who has identified as a female, posted on Instagram stories.

“I didn’t even know this was a thing. Most offers came from micro influencers who were hoping to grow their following. The highest legitimate offer I got was just over five figures (and I seriously considered it).

She added: “The most interesting offer was from a big influencer (500K +) who was looking to change the name and launch new business on it. Makes me think her following is fake.”

Celeb Spellcheck also said most of her offers came from journalists or podcasts and the highest offer to out herself was $7000.

She said she wouldn’t go back to posting influencer content because she never wanted to be the “authority” on all things influencer.

“It got too big and too stressful for me to run. There were too many eyes on me, articles were written about the account almost daily and people trying to hunt you down is scary.”

She added she wouldn’t be offended if people unfollowed and clarified that she’d never made money from the account.

Celeb Spellcheck’s most notable triumphs included uncovering a just-launched Lorinska Merrington outfit, which mysteriously showed up at a bayside Salvos.

In the lead-up to the launch, businesswoman Bec Judd was among several celebrities to spruik Royale by Lorinska’s line on socials, posing up in the loungewear on her Instagram story.

However, later that week an eagle-eyed shopper spotted a set of the blue Royale tracksuit in a size eight at a Salvos near where Judd lives, sparking speculation the TV presenter had given away the outfit.

There was also model Elyse Knowles’ faux pas — “wallah” for “voila” — and busting former Bachelor contestant Laurina Fleure snorting white powder at a party.

Fleure told the Herald Sun she was “humiliated” by the post, but added: “I always aspire to live a sober life … and then the scales tip the other way and I have a blowout sometimes when I go out.”

In the resignation letter Celeb Spellcheck had posted: “This account has become too big, too powerful, and too consuming for me to enjoy running it anymore.

“There is no scandalous reason behind this decision. I’m not being threatened, sued or controlled in any way. I will be permanently deleting this account tomorrow.”

Many influencers and celebrities celebrated its demise.

But a new copycat account with a similar name and picture has already started to wreak havoc in the influencer world.
