I’M A Celebrity winner Abbie Chatfield says she cuddled up to comedian Ash Williams because she needed a “warm body” in the jungle.
Chatfield said she had some deep conversations with Williams after watching the show and hearing things he said.
“We are purely friends and I don’t think I ever said I had feelings for him,’’ she said.
“I literally needed a warm body and then everyone’s like, ‘she’s in love with him’.
“We had some conversations about things he said and we’re good. It’s so boring and you have conversations that in the real world wouldn’t even happen.”
Chatfield said runner-up Grant Denyer even called her last week to apologise.
“Grant called to say it was all amped up and I forgive easily,’’ she said.
“They’re like my little family.”
After an hour’s sleep after celebrating her win, Chatfield said she was relieved to have finally been crowned a winner after coming runner-up on the Bachelorette. She won $100,000 for her charity Dementia Australia, a cause close to her heart after her grandmother passed away in June.
“When Grant and I were sitting there I was like I’d rather come seventh than second again,’’ she said.
“I’d have a breakdown. I just thought I don’t want to come second.
“The adrenaline was flowing, I was really pumped and so thrilled to win for the charity.”
Network 10 said it could not have been happier with the ratings for the series, filmed for the first time in Australia and prerecorded. The live finale result raked in almost 900,000 metro viewers and beat the Married at First Sight reunion.
Chief Content Officer and Executive Vice President, ViacomCBS Australia and New Zealand, Beverley McGarvey, said: “The unbridled success of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! reiterated that the landscape of summer viewing has changed forever.
“Its dominance across all platforms, in its timeslot in total people, under 50s and in all key demographics, night after night proved unrivalled.
“It has been wonderful to see how viewers reacted and engaged with our celebrities. It provided much needed laughter, warmth and family fun in these tougher times. It was escapism at its best.”
