Billy Brownless opens up about wife Nicky’s relationship with former mate Garry Lyon

Billy Brownless says it took him two years to come to terms with the breakdown of his marriage and his wife Nicky being in a relationship with his former mate, Garry Lyon.

Billy Brownless has opened up about his marriage breakdown, admitting it was “a real kick in the guts”.

Brownless said time will heal the wounds, but he opened up about the hurt after his split from wife Nicky four years ago.

Nicky is still in a relationship with his former Footy Show mate, Garry Lyon.

Brownless has opened up about the very public breakdown of his marriage on I’m a Celebrity.

“It was um, public, very public, front pages and all that,’’ Brownless says in a raw discussion with Rhonda Burchmore onI’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here!

“We’d separated, which you know, surprised a few.

“She left me, really. She just fell out of love which happens.

“18 years (we were married). And I didn’t expect it.

“You think she’ll come back and all that, but she didn’t.

“So that was a real kick in the guts.

“But then you know about a year later, she’s um, shacked up with one of my good mates. “And he’s in the media too.”

Brownless took years to come to terms with the break-up.

Brownless, who has four children with Nicky, said he and Lyon were not “best mates” but would one day get together.

He said it took two years to come to terms with it.

“We’re not best mates. There’s no Christmas cards or anything,’’ Brownless said.

“One day I suppose, we’ll sit down and have a beer.

“One day. Time heals.”

The events began to unfold publicly when in February 2016, Channel 9 released a statement announcing that Lyon was on indefinite leave from The Footy Show as he battled depression.

A month later in March, Brownless spoke about the betrayal during an emotional interview on The Footy Show.

“I couldn’t believe it,” Brownless said on the show. “I found out three or four months ago that something was going on. I had a hunch. I did some investigation myself, sat Nicky down, and we had a chat and she told me.

“My initial feelings were, like anyone – you get angry. You’re headless, you’re angry.

“I shot of a couple of texts to Garry and to Nicky which you wouldn’t want to repeat on this show. And then after a couple of days, you get embarrassed.”

Lyon and Nicky Brownless bought a house together in 2018 and remain a couple.
