Billy Brownless and Garry Lyon have reunited for a nostalgic chat on the airwaves.
The pair, who were once best friends before a public falling out, came together for the occasion of SEN radio’s 20th birthday celebration on Friday morning.
Brownless, Lyon and Tim Watson were the hosts of the first breakfast show when the station launched.
“Well done boys ... 20 years, that is a bloody good thing to do,’’ Brownless said, when he joined Lyon and Watson who co-hosted a special show.
“I can’t belive you’re still going after some of those years. Back in the good old days when we first started we used to get a bit fruity with things going on at home and things with me going out.”
The trio then laughed and reminisced over stories of their time on air with Brownless confirming he did once sleep in his car out of the front of the studio in Richmond.
“We did get in trouble when we went to the Logies and went straight through the breakfast show,’’ Brownless said.
“We found a bit of trouble now and then. We had a couple of bosses come into our office and things over the journey. I’m not a morning person and still not by the way, I used to get up at 4am, jump in the shower and then just jump in the car and you’d read the Herald Sun and then we’re on air.”
Garry paid tribute to Brownless, who now works for Triple M co-hosting The Rush Hour with James Brayshaw.
“The very first morning, the very first voices that you heard on this station was one of yours, and we couldn’t have done it without you so we thank Triple M where you’re knocking them dead with JB over there,’’ Lyon said.
Brownless signed off the call: “Well done boys, congrats to you Wispy (Watson) and well done to you Gaz”.
Brownless and Lyon, who were stars on The Footy Show, fell out in 2016 when Billy was left heartbroken after learning Lyon had got together with his ex-wife Nicky.
Lyon proposed to Nicky last month. Their relationships had shown strong signs they had healed when they all came together several years ago to celebrate Christmas.
Lyon and Watson, who have reunited to co-host breakfast on SEN, were also joined by former station favourites Mark Fine, Mark Allen and David Schwarz, Tony Schibeci and Anthony Hudson. Dermott Brereton also joined the pair to reminisce.
SEN CEO Craig Hutchison said the sports station was creating an enormous legacy.
“What a reflective two weeks it’s been,’’ he said.
“It’s been incredible ... just shows you the power of this city, the power of this town and the power of this station.
“This is undoubtedly the most powerful sporting market per capita in the world. Can you imagine this city without it? It means the world.”
