THE creators of local hit children’s TV show Little Lunch have been honoured on the international stage.

Robyn Butler and Wayne Hope of Gristmill have been awarded medals as finalists in the International Emmy Awards Kids.

The show was one of four nominations in the Kids: TV Movie/Mini Series section of the awards ceremony held at the Carlton Hotel in Cannes, France.

The award ceremony was held in conjunction with the MIPTV conference and entertainment market in Cannes this week.

The Emmy in the section went to Hank Zipzer’s Christmas Catastrophe, the UK entry.

The Australian husband and wife team said they were thrilled to be in Cannes for the award ceremony.

Ms Butler said it was wonderful to have international recognition for their work.

Mr Hope said he was really impressed by the standard of work of the other nominees.

“This our first time and it is good to see what is happening on the international stage,” he said.

Their show is a mockumentary comedy series set in 15 highly significant minutes of a child’s life: snack time in the primary school playground.

It covers that 15 minutes when teachers are not close by, it’s just a child and their friends, and schoolyard politics, rumours, competitions, mysteries, and fun abound.

The Australian show was one of 28 nominations in seven categories, spanning 16 countries.

The show, shown on the ABC, comes from the Australian Children’s Television Foundation and Gristmill Australia.
