POLICE have charged a 41-year-old Merrimac woman over a stabbing attack on a Myer staff member at the Robina Town Centre this morning.
The employee, 32, was allegedly stabbed in the right hand. She suffered a 15cm laceration and was taken by ambulance to Robina Hospital.
The worker was on the phone at the department store’s women’s-wear counter when the incident occurred. It will be alleged the woman became impatient and sliced the staff member’s hand with what appeared to be a box cutter.
“The employee advised the woman that she would not be long before turning away and continuing the conversation,” a police statement read.
“The woman has then allegedly removed a cutting implement from her handbag and moved around the counter where she cut the top of the employee’s right hand.
“The woman then ran from the store, through a food court, before exiting the shopping centre.”
Police conducted a search for the offender, checking CCTV footage in a bid to track her movements.
It’s also alleged the Merrimac woman then assaulted a member of the public at Australia Fair on Marine Parade at Southport just before 3.30pm, police stated.
Officers later arrested the 41-year-old in Merrimac and charged her with wounding and possession of a knife in a public place.
She was refused bail and was expected to face the Southport Magistrates Court on Thursday.
The attacks came as police were investigating a separate stabbing incident at Pimpama overnight, which left a 33-year-old Coast man in critical condition.
