A jilted lover broke into the apartment of a neighbour after she discovered her boyfriend of 18 months was “meandering around the complex and found another little door to call into”.

Maddison Darcas April Binns then slapped the “other” woman’s roommate, threw a flat screen TV plus a lamp, slapped the “other” woman and threw a ceramic bowl at her 6am on January 22 this year.

The 25-year-old’s tirade ended when her boyfriend dragged her out of the apartment.

Binns and the two women lived in the same Labrador apartment complex.

As she was forced to leave she was heard yelling: “I told you I would kick the door in”.

She was also seen laughing and blowing a kiss to the “other” woman’s roommate.

Binns also caused significant damage to the woman’s car which was parked in the car park.

She pleaded guilty in the Southport Magistrates Court on Monday to multiple charges including common assault, wilful damage and entering a premises with intent.

Magistrate Ron Kilner sentenced her to 18 months’ probation, ordered she pay $2085 in restitution and $500 in compensation. No conviction was recorded.

“Quite clearly there was a provocative act on behalf of your former boyfriend and the person he was having some dalliance with,” he said.

Magistrate Kilner said Binns’ actions could only be described as a “tirade”.

“Understandably people get upset when this is going on but it doesn’t excuse or justify this behaviour.

“To put it bluntly it was way over the top.”

The court was told Binns had been with her partner for 18 months when she discovered he was having an affair with another woman who lived in the same unit complex.

Police had previously been to the apartment after she was spotted knocking loudly on the “other” woman’s door.

Binns’ lawyer Chris Hannay, of Hannay Lawyers, said Binns was “embarrassed and apologetic” about her actions.

“She was concerned and found out that her boyfriend had been meandering around the complex and found another little door to call into,” he said.

Mr Hannay said Binns, who had no criminal history, was suffering mental health issues at the time and was now seeking counselling.

Outside of court he said: “Anyone who was living in the same complex and obviously found someone having a little bit of a sojourn with an 18-month relationship boyfriend, one can understand her anger in relation to it.

“The damage that was done she is happy to pay for it and she is obviously very remorseful.

“I’m pretty confident we will never see her back here before the court.”

Binns covered her face as she left court and did not comment.
