Police are closing-in on a youth gang believed to be behind a terrifying home invasion on the Gold Coast at the weekend that caused more than $100,000 worth of damage.
At least eight masked and heavily armed teens broke into a property along Oyster Cove Promenade, Helensvale just before 6am on Sunday.
Two vehicles, a beige BMW 328i and a grey Mazda CX-9, were stolen from the property. Officers have since managed to locate both vehicles. One was found abandoned at Pacific Pines, while the other was dumped in Loganholme, south of Brisbane.
Since the incident on Sunday, police believe the gang has continued on a spree including multiple break-ins and car thefts.
On Monday night two vehicles were stolen on the Gold Coast and attempt to take a third was interrupted. Police believe the same crew was responsible.
The offenders have also been caught on CCTV at a number of break and enters in the same night.
Police sources have told the Bulletin the offenders had only just been released from detention, reoffending within hours of getting out.
On Monday morning another stolen vehicle, a Volkswagen Tiguan, linked to the same crime spree, was reported by a member of the public abandoned near Rochedale.
Officers are continue to urge the community to report suspicious vehicles and activity.
