SPIN-BOWLING ART ALIVE AND WELL

A WEEK after Palm Beach Currumbin legspinner Ryan Kettle took five wickets against Broadbeach Robina, a number of other Gold Coast tweakers were among the Kookaburra Cup wickets on Saturday.

Broadbeach’s Matt Littlechild collected 5-42 against Runaway Bay, Daniel Spiers claimed 3-48 for Coomera Hope Island and Southport Labrador’s Oli McGee finished with 3-59 against Mudgeeraba Nerang.

Mudgeeraba’s Brad Munro also sits in the competition’s top 10 wicket-takers list.

SWAN’S HAIR GOING GREYER BY THE DAY

GOLD Coast Dolphins coach Chris Swan must be at his wit’s end.

His side’s inconsistent Queensland Premier Cricket form continued on Saturday as they fell to Redlands in their fifth-straight two-day run chase.

Having previously beaten heavyweights University of Queensland and Norths, the Dolphins need to find a way to bottle that form.

SURFERS STAR STILL HAS IT

HIS Kookaburra Cup appearances for Surfers Paradise are sporadic but former Australian Twenty20 star Nathan Reardon remains one of the competition’s best batsmen when on song.

Playing just his fourth game of the season, the 35-year-old smashed 163 on Saturday to steer the Demons to 7-334 declared against Burleigh.

FINS SKIPPER SHOWING HER CLASS

BELINDA McDougall’s Katherine Raymont Shield returns had been modest this season before bursting into life in Gold Coast’s last two one-dayers.

Two weeks after posting 68 in a losing cause against Sandgate-Redcliffe, the 35-year-old captain dug the Dolphins out of trouble with a knock of 48 in Sunday’s victory over Ipswich-Logan.

QUICK SHINING IN WINTON’S ABSENCE

WITH representative duties so far limiting the presence of Sam Winton for Queens this season, fellow quick Blake Chapman has stepped up to fill the void.

He took 4-17 to help roll Coomera Hope Island for 76 on Saturday and now has 13 Kookaburra Cup wickets at 12.38 this season.
