THE fortunes of Gold Coast pair Sam Winton and Jimmy Spargo differed vastly as South Queensland was humbled by North Queensland in their three-match series at Beenleigh over the weekend.
Queens quick Winton collected 1-24 as North Queensland finished 4-113 in Friday night’s Twenty20 at Dauth Park, before Burleigh batsman Spargo was out LBW for nine in South Queensland’s reply of 8-111.
The following day, Winton took 4-40 from 10 overs as North Queensland piled on 8-301, with Spargo making just four as South Queensland were rolled for 104.

Today, Winton picked up 3-61 from nine overs in North Queensland’s 45-over innings of 7-237, with Spargo dismissed for two before rain halted South Queensland’s chase at 6-114 after 31 overs to hand victory to the visitors.

Winton’s efforts earned him a spot in the Queensland team to play at the National Country Championships in Toowoomba from January 3-11.
