Gold Coast woman in finals for title of the Iron Woman

This Gold Coast woman has just one prize on her mind — becoming a top ironwoman. Even if it means training 14 times a week.

CURRUMBIN local Karlee Nurthen, 22, has trained hard for a decade to become an ironwoman champion.

Late last year she reaped the rewards with an outstanding world championship campaign in Adelaide, winning world titles in ironwoman and board.

And this year, having cemented her place in Surf Life Saving’s Ocean 6 series, she lines up on the sand at Currumbin today and tomorrow to compete against the best in round four of the competition.

“I have always wanted to be an ironwoman,” she said.

Ocean6 is being held at Currumbin Beach for the first time this weekend.

“To have the competition at home is amazing,” she said.
