A LACK of parking around one of the Gold Coast’s busiest shopping centres is about to get worse.
The Harbour Side Market complex and its carpark near Biggera Waters’ Harbour Town Shopping Centre is set to be redeveloped to create a self-storage warehouse.
The National Storage building will occupy the 9695 sqm site on Oxley Drive.

The Harbour Side Market building will be ‘repurposed’ to form part of the self-storage centre.
The developer is proposing that just 12 car parks remain for the building, which will offer self storage units.
A development application was filed earlier this week.
A decision is expected to be made laster this year.
Harbourside Markets, housed in a 1600sq m building on the site, was launched in 2012 to provide northern Gold Coast residents with an alternative to central-city gourmet food precincts such as Ferry Rd Market, in Southport, and Capri on Via Roma, in Surfers Paradise.
However the centre struggled to attract customers and a number of stores closed.
It was bought in 2016 for $7.25 million.
It was sold again in 2018.
