A 26-year-old woman has died and a crime scene has been declared after a unit fire in Surfers Paradise.
Emergency services were called to an apartment at Surf Parade Resort on Surf Pde just before 2pm on Wednesday.
A Queensland Fire Department spokesperson said crews had initially responded to an alarm activation and arrived to an active fire on level three of the building.
All occupants of the building were evacuated and the fire was under control by 2.30pm.
A Queensland Police Service spokesperson confirmed the woman was found deceased at the scene.
Detective Sergeant Dane Sheraton told media on the scene the incident was considered non-suspicious at this stage.
“There’s nothing suspicious we’re looking at,” he said.
“She was the only one in the unit.”
Det Sgt Sheraton said the unit, which was a short stay holiday rental, was extensively damaged and the woman’s injuries consistent with that of a fire.
Investigations are underway.
