Townhouses development lodged for Bonville St in Coffs Harbour

An old inner city house built in the ‘70s will make way for a block of townhouses in the heart of Coffs Harbour under plans lodged with council. See what’s planned.

A house built in the 1970s will make way for six townhouses as the renewal of downtown Coffs Harbour gains pace, according to a development application lodged with council.

The $1.3 million Bonville St proposal would see the construction of two-storey units on a 1100 sqm rectangular block which backs onto Renshaw Ln.

The X-factor for the proposed build before the City of Coffs Harbour is that the site is just a 400m walk to the CBD.

No. 7 Bonville St is zoned medium density residential and is close to schools and public recreation spaces.

HMB Developments Pty Ltd is the applicant.

Each of the six townhouses would be three bedrooms and include ground floor and upper level al fresco areas.

“The townhouses have been designed by an architect,” Keiley Hunter Town Planning says in the statement of environmental effects.

“Modern external materials have been selected to provide a contemporary, durable and low maintenance finish.”

The application notes an old home and a shed on the site would be demolished – and the new building would address in part the housing shortage in Coffs Harbour.

It’s estimated the works would cost $1,326,800.

If approved, it would be another chapter in the urban renewal of the city centre, which is rapidly changing with the construction of council’s Yarilla Place (civic centre).

There are also plans to rejuvenate and improve Brelsford Park, which takes in the popular skate park.

The proposed Bonville St townhouses would stand no taller than about 7m – well below the 15.5m zoned ceiling for the precinct.

“The townhouses are well designed offering high quality accommodation for a range of household sizes and types in proximity to employment and schools,” Keiley Hunter states.

“The proposed townhouses are modest in height, scale and form and will not adversely impact adjoining development or jeopardise future development of adjoining land.”
