Lismore: Bailey Fraser sentenced over drug charges

A young Northern Rivers man nabbed with more than $23,000 in cash and caught supplying drugs has escaped a jail term.

Bailey Fraser, 24, appeared in Lismore Local Court on Monday for sentencing before Magistrate Michael Dakin.

The court heard that between 4pm and 5.30pm on November 27, 2023, at Goonellabah, Fraser supplied a quantity of cannabis leaf and was found with $23,120 in cash.

Fraser was charged with possessing a prohibited drug and recklessly dealing with the proceeds of crime.

He was also charged with supplying an indictable amount of cannabis, an amount less than commercial quantity.

Additionally, he faced a charge of driving a motor vehicle during a disqualification period – second offence.

The court heard Fraser had also breached an active Community Correction Order entered into on September 11, 2023.

Mr Dakin ordered no further action be taken against Fraser for the CCO breach and the driving while disqualified and drug possession charges.

However, for the charge of recklessly dealing with proceeds of crime, Fraser was convicted and sentenced to a nine month intensive correction in the community order.

He was ordered to perform 100 hours of community service work.

Mr Dakin also convicted Fraser for the drug supply charge, sentencing him to a nine month intensive correction in the community order with 100 hours of community service work.

The 24-year-old must abstain from drugs, not commit any offence while on the order and submit to supervision from a Community Corrections Officer.
