Coronavirus: Two new COVID-19 cases detected on Gold Coast

More Gold Coast locals have been told they have coronavirus, but the good news is plenty have already recovered.

AUTHORITIES have confirmed a rise in the number of known coronavirus cases on the Gold Coast with figures now reaching 181 local cases.

As of Friday afternoon two more locals have been diagnosed with the potentially deadly virus, pushing the total up from 179 yesterday.

Of those diagnosed 73 have already recovered from the virus while 106 are still considered to be “active infections”.

The state figures have also remained relatively steady with another thirteen cases confirmed today.

The state’s total number of confirmed virus cases now sits at 965 – 592 of which are still active.

As of tonight additional restrictions will also come into effect for Queenslanders returning from Sydney and the Central Coast of NSW.

As of Tuesday testing for the virus was opened up to the general public on the Gold Coast who are presenting with symptoms.

Members of the local medical community have told the Bulletin they believe a jump may occur later in the week once community cases are confirmed.

Contact tracing is underway for the 13 new cases. Queensland Health will notify the community if any other public health alerts are required.

To date, five Queenslanders have died from the virus.

The state has seen an exponential growth in cases since the first diagnosis on January 29th.

Anyone who has been overseas in the last 14 days and has a fever or any respiratory symptoms is asked to contact a doctor immediately.
