A HEARTWARMING video has been released showing a fully recovered coronavirus patient leaving hospital Gold Coast University Hospital.
The first patient in Queensland to recover after having to be ventilated in an intensive care unit, retired police officer Kym Watkins has returned home in good health.
Flanked by her treating team she was wheeled out of the hospital with a bunch of flowers in hand to cheers and applause by hospital staff.
Mrs Watkins was admitted to hospital on Wednesday, March 25th after contracting coronavirus while on holiday in New York with her husband Grant.
While Mr Watkins experienced only mild symptoms, which were manageable in home isolation under the virtual care of the Gold Coast Public Health Unit, Kym’s symptoms slowly got more severe.

“Thank you for saving my life! I am so grateful to the amazing people at the Gold Coast University Hospital – everyone from the doctors and nurses to the people who meticulously clean the ward are incredible at their jobs. I just wish everyone could see how big my smile is under this mask,” Mrs Watkins said as she was farewelled by her treating team.
There were 13 more Queenslanders diagnosed with coronavirus in the last 24 hours, bringing the state’s total to 966 cases.
