The owners behind a popular beachfront restaurant on the southern Gold Coast are taking over a space recently left vacant by a 15-year-old tapas bar.

Siblings owners Jarrod Kyle and TJ Cianci have revealed they will take over the space formerly occupied by Kirra’s Bread and Butter restaurant on Musgrave St, transforming it into a European/Italian restaurant called Hanks.

On May 12, Bread and Butter restaurant co-owners Jorge Mauleon and Sara Grao served their final feast after becoming a local favourite for pizzas and homemade gnocchi.

After opening their beachfront restaurant in 2022, Mr Kyle said it was a surreal moment to unveil their plans for their second venue in the suburb.

“As a family we want to say thank you to everybody for giving us a shot down here,” he said.

Mr Kyle said the 100-120 seated venue would have share plate dishes with a coastal European influence.

He said they would have a similar wine list to Siblings and a specialised cocktail menu.

Mr Kyle said while they had the opportunity to open their next venue on the northern Gold Coast, they decided to commit to Kirra.

“We are a family who love going out to dine together as one, so we like to create that for other people to enjoy,” he said.

Mr Kyle said despite the recent hospitality boom in Kirra, they had seen an increase in customers at Siblings.

“It’s doing better than it was since the additions of Kirra Beach House, Kirra Beach Hotel, Pipi’s around the corner and more,” he said.

“It has given us more exposure and people see us more.

“We recommend other venues around us and I’m sure they do the same.

“Kirra has become a bit of a hospitality community down there now.”

Hanks will open in early September.
