Police and QFES, RFS swiftwater rescuers called to Pimpama River at Coomera after ute suspected stolen found in water

Swiftwater rescue crews combed a river after a ute was found bobbing in the water on the northern Gold Coast.

Swiftwater rescue crews spent about two hours searching a Gold Coast river after a ute believed to be stolen was discovered bobbing in the water with no occupant inside.

Gold Coast police have been investigating whether the Ford Ranger has been reported as stolen and how the ute ended up in the Pimpama River on Wednesday night, a spokeswoman said.

Police were called to the car in the water near a boat ramp on Colman Rd at Coomera about 8pm.

Five Queensland Fire and Emergency Services swiftwater rescue crews arrived soon after, about 8.30pm.

They did not locate anyone in the water, despite spending a significant amount of time searching around the submerged vehicle.

The last rescue crew left about 10.30pm.
