The owner of the best fish and chip shop on the Gold Coast has shared a family secret guaranteed to get you hooked.
Main Beach mainstay Peter’s Fish Market has taken out top spot in the Bulletin’s annual poll, landing 12 per cent of the reader vote.
Owner Andrew Peters said the title was testament to almost 30 years of fin-tastic service.
“We feel humbled, ecstatic and more determined than ever to give back to our Gold Coast community with even more outstanding food and service,” he said.
“Peter’s Fish Market is the real deal.”
Mr Peters dad, Peter Peters, opened the family-run business in 1992 and it’s cemented itself as a Gold Coast landmark.
“We have customers who have been seeing us for almost 30 years now. Our customers are our family,” Mr Peters said.
He said the family work from 7am to 7pm every day, unloading trawlers, receiving stock from suppliers and cooking food to order.
“You are also able to select your seafood from our fresh market so you know the exact piece of fish you are getting,” Mr Peters said.
“Depending on the seasonal availability, some of our produce comes straight from the trawlers. You don’t get any fresher than that.”
Calamari, fresh-cooked prawns, chips with chicken salt, house-made salads and crumbed fish are among the most-ordered items.
“Even though we pride ourselves on our affordable prices we don’t skimp on the quality of our ingredients and we know our seafood inside and out,” Mr Peters said.
Chevron Island Seafoods in Surfers Paradise was runner-up with 10 per cent of the vote.
Sorrento Seafoods in Bundall was third, Miami Fish Market in Miami was fourth and 2024 champion Small Fry in Robina was fifth.
