Police are on the hunt for a driver who fled on foot after crashing a van on the M1 at Yatala, leaving a passenger seriously injured.

Initial Queensland Police Service investigations indicate the grey 2021 Renault Master was travelling northbound on the Pacific Motorway (M1) before it crashed near the exit 41 off-ramp at Yatala about 4.25pm on Thursday, October 6.

“The passenger, a 32-year-old West End (Brisbane) man, suffered serious injuries before being taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital,” a statement read.

“The driver, an unknown man, failed to remain at the scene of the crash and fled on foot.”

Investigators have appealed for the driver or anyone with information regarding his identity to come forward. Anonymous reports can be made.

Police have asked for dashcam footage which shows the van’s movements from motorists who were driving in the area at the time of the single-car crash.
