New Westfield Coomera opening date revealed

COOMERA’S new multimillion-dollar Westfield has announced it will open its doors in just 30 days.

The new Westfield shopping centre which boasts cinemas, a huge outdoor leisure space and more than 140 retailers, will open for the first time to the public on Thursday, October 11.

The centre, which stretches to 59,000 square metres, has been likened to the size of Helensvale, with the option to extend further in years to come.

Centre Manager Lauren Frew said while work on the complex is still underway, the 30 day deadline will be reached.

“This is our first greenfield site which allows us to design and construct a shopping centre around the needs of the community from scratch,” Ms Frew said.

Two storey restaurants will be a feature of the centre.

“We get to listen to what they like and don’t like and incorporate that into the design.”

The unique design includes a heavy use of natural lighting and an emphasis on outdoor space. Food and leisure retailers which make up 30 per cent of the tenancy.

“It is really important to us that we reflect the Queensland feel,” Ms Frew said.

“We are in the best climate in the world so why would you not want to incorporate that into the centre?

“We will also have an area that will be featuring high ropes courses, laser tag and much more.

“We are also really excited to announce international favourite H&M will open its doors in Westfield Coomera this year.”

New retailers to the centre also include Rebel Sport and JB HiFi.

Major brands such as Kmart and Target have already begun to move stock into the centre.

“It is also critical we have a safe way for our customers to get here so we are close to public transport and the easy rail access,” she said.

“We have also got about 2100 car spaces that people can use”.

There will be 2500 car parks with numberplate tracking technology.

While not all sites will be open by the ribbon cutting on October 11, Ms Frew said the centre will be at capacity by Christmas.

7500 jobs have been created through the construction of the centre.

Other suburbs in the Gold Coast’s north will also see their own new retail spaces this month with the completion of Pimpama City Shopping Centre.

The Pimpama centre is set to have a line up of Coles, Aldi and Best and Less and will open its doors to the public on September 21st.
