Gold Coast bikie Harley Barbaro’s social media has broken his usual silence to furiously claim unfair treatment of bikies after a man convicted of under age sex was not jailed.
On Wednesday afternoon, Barbaro’s social media account criticised treatment of bikies by the justice system and media.
The Mongols gang member’s story shared a screenshot of a News Corp story about a man convicted of having sex with a 12-year-old girl on the Sunshine Coast and receiving a sentence which included no jail time.
The screenshot was accompanied by a furious caption.
“But bikies can’t even hang out with our brothers our families areas (sic) get posted every time in papers we go to court our photos our names etc but a sex offender gets 0 days in jail and no names or areas posted there must be somthing (sic) wrong with the system,” he wrote.
It is against Queensland law to publish details which will identify a child victim or a victim of sexual assault or rape.
That law often leads to identifying details of a perpetrator not being published in order to protect a victim.
Barbaro, who has never spoken to media, comes from a notorious crime family. He is the brother of underworld figure Pasquale Barbaro, who was shot execution-style in Sydney in 2016.
He regularly posts photos of family and friends on social media but rarely uses it to comment.
The screenshot is the only thing Barbaro has posted to his Instagram stories in the past 24 hours.
His last past on the account was on November 21 when he posted a shirtless photo of himself and another man captioned: “My brother for life MFFM LMDM”.
MFFM LMDM means “Mongols forever, forever Mongols, Live Mongol, die Mongol”.
The bio on the profile makes reference to one of his brothers, his partner and two children followed by the words “MONGOL NATION”.
In recent years Barbaro has been in and out of court for a number of different matters including driving without a licence.
