BIG changes are coming for one the Gold Coast’s best-loving shopping centres, with documents revealing the impact of COVID-19 on its future.
A development application has been lodged with the Gold Coast City Council to revamp the Oasis Shopping Centre to create more space for shopfronts.
The Broadbeach complex’s owners want to increase the internal space of the western atrium on level two by 575 sqm, documents now with council show.

This will be achieved by the removal of “voids” and “areas of circulation”.
The application, if approved, would allow for tenancy options for either a language
school, office, health care services or community use.
“The Oasis centre has recently received interest from a number of businesses who are wanting to establish their operations within the centre,” a planning report on the project reads.
BIG CHANGE TO NEW BURLEIGH TOWER REVEALED
“The Oasis is defined by the City Plan as a ‘principal centre’ which is viewed as a major employment area providing diverse employment opportunities and a range of tourist, retail and business activities.
“Given the current economic climate, it is important for the City of Gold Coast to ensure the survival of its principal centres to protect the economy.
“This can only occur by encouraging new business through opportunity and this development will contribute to the longevity of the Oasis Centre, by expanding the internal layout to provide new tenancy spaces for potential businesses.”
The Oasis has undergone significant changes in the past five years - the entrance to the complex was expanded to add restaurants and bars, while the popular monorail was shut down.
