The Gold Coast is an influencer hotbed and people from different facets of society are under the doona.
In the Bulletin’s top 100 influencers list, beauty queens in barely-there bikinis, sports legends, fitness gurus, porn stars, former reality TV contestants, animal activists, artists, fashionistas, mums and even a six-year-old skater are luring large online audiences by simply spruiking the latest trends, what they had for breakfast, and their frank opinions on life.
RACER SPRUIKS SOCIALS AND STRATEGY
Supercar fanatic, ex-racer and HerSupercarLife owner Rachael Reid says social media is no longer an afterthought for brands or businesses owners.
It is essential.
Reid says she read an article in Digital 2021 Australia that showed 80 per cent (20.5 million) of the population spend one-third of their time online – nearly two hours per day – on social media.
“Social continues to grow and at a rate never seen before. Ignore it and you do so at your brand’s peril.
“I simply see influencers as modern-day advertorials or ambassadors.”
She says she worked in the social sphere for four years to start her brand and bring more awareness to women in a male-dominated field.
“There just aren’t many supercar influencers, let alone female ones, and especially in Australia,” Reid says.
“However, with just over 50 per cent of all drivers licences held by women, and females still influencing more than 80 per cent of all car purchases in the household, it was a no-brainer for someone like me, that knows how to drive and has been around cars and motorsport my whole life, to offer my opinion and share it with my like-minded audience.”
She says it led to an invitation to sit on Lamborghini’s prestigious global Female Advisory Board.
“My audience is broad and varied from the aspirational, who will one day turn into buyers, to a very healthy active audience of supercar owners which continues to grow daily both here and overseas.
“I know my influence works as I have introduced and secured several supercar sales around the $1m mark directly through my influence and channels.
“I am living proof that influence does work and even at this high price point.”
Reid is well-entrenched among influencer powerbrokers, having 91,300 followers on Instagram.
