Outland Denim: Meghan Markle sports Coast designer’s jeans to Wimbledon

The most famous woman in the world, Meghan Markle, has once again showed her support for a Gold Coast profit-for-purpose by stepping out in a pair of their cool, skinny jeans at Wimbledon.

Wait, the Royals are worth how much?!

THE most famous woman in the world, Meghan Markle, has once again showed her support for a Gold Coast profit-for-purpose by stepping out in a pair of their cool, skinny jeans at Wimbledon.

The Duchess of Sussex made a surprise visit with two friends to Wimbledon four days ago, wearing a pair of Harriet jeans by Outland Denim, which is based at Tamborine Mountain.

This is the second time the Duchess has been photographed in their jeans. Last year, she caused a stir and a sales frenzy when she wore a pair during her tour Down Under.

Traffic on the Outland website exploded by 3000 per cent and the company has since been making inroads into Australian and UK markets.

This time, the Duchess opted for the blue denim of the Harriet high-rise, known as Bryon Tonal, which she wore with a black top, white jacket and black stilettos for a relaxed but elegant look.

Since then, traffic to Outland’s Australian site has spiked by 800 per cent and sales by 50 per cent.

Outland gained 1000 new Instagram followers in 24 hours and the image of Duchess in their jeans shared to Outland’s Instagram account received 94,577 impressions, 2,764 likes and 103 comments.

The famous Duchess’s Wimbledon visit was believed to be her first informal outing with friends since the birth of baby Archie and sparked a 50 per cent spike in sales.

Outland was founded by Gold Coaster James Bartle with the aim of creating sustainably-made jeans, which are manufactured in Cambodia by women who have escaped trafficking, exploitation, are extremely poor or have a disability.

His wife Erica, Outland’s communications director, said they were once again thrilled about and humbled by Ms Markle’s latest support.

‘It’s exciting. It’s wonderful,” she said. “We love that she’s down-to-earth in her outfit choices and also that she has found her Outland jeans comfortable enough after having a baby.”

She said the Harriet high-rise Bryon Tonal was made with organic cotton and some stretch.

“So, it’s a great choice for a day at the tennis. Of course, the fact that she’s also supporting the women who we support by wearing Outland is at the heart of her decision.

“She’s a true humanitarian making a conscious difference, even with her clothes.”

The first time Ms Markle wore Outland jeans, Outland had not had direct contact with her or her staff, but they were aware the Royal couple was interested in their jeans.

“We believed that what we do would have appealed to Meghan’s humanitarian values but she had fallen pregnant prior to the Royal Tour, so we didn’t really anticipate she would wear denim,” Mrs Bartle said.

“We only wish she knew the impact this has had on our business and the opportunities she has been able to help create. She’s been quite outspoken about injustices against women, for example, working with World Vision in India, so we are delighted to have her support.”

Outland Denim has won a slew of awards for its jeans, including an A+ in all five criteria of the prestigious 2019 Ethical Fashion Report, published by Baptist World Aid — an international aid and development organisation operating in 25 countries.

Harriet jeans are available online and at local retailers.
