Markle choice makes Mt Tamborine’s company’s day sparkle

A SMALL Mount Tamborine company quickly sold out of one of its most popular jeans lines today after Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, wore a pair on a trip to Dubbo.

The Duchess donned the ‘Harriet’ jeans on a visit to a drought-stricken farm with husband Prince Harry.

The $199 skinny jeans were sourced from Mount Tamborine company Outland Jeans, which has since informed customers that the line has sold out in most sizes due to “unprecedented demand”.

Ms Markle chose to wear the jeans just two days after announcing that she is expecting the royal couple’s first child.

Outland Jeans communications director Erica Bartle, wife of the company’s founder James Bartle, said a nondisclosure clause limited what she could say about the Meghan’s fashion choice.

“I can say Meghan and Harry were given selection of jeans but we didn’t know they would be wearing them until they popped up on social media,” she said.

“We’ve seen a spike in our sales already and lots of inquiries and we imagine the Markle effect will play out for the rest of the week.”

Having the Duchess wearing the company’s product was a dream placement for Ms Bartle, who said if they could pick anyone in the world to endorse their ethically-manufactured jeans it would be Meghan Markle.

The company was founded after Mr Bartle had an encounter with an anti-trafficking group, and then travelled to Asia and saw first-hand how human traffickers prey on vulnerable young girls in order to service the sex industry.

He decided to create a project to give young women a chance to escape the sex industry.

Outland has a production facility in Cambodia and prides themselves on their holistic care of their staff through wage and personal development initiatives and on sourcing ethically and environmentally sound materials.

Ms Bartle said celebrities, particularly female celebrities, were becoming more aware of ethically and sustainable produced fashion.

“Harry and Meghan seem to have real passion for social justice, they are thoroughly modern,’ she said.

The company produces a range of jeans for women, including the Isabel, Abigail, the soon-to-be produced Lucy and the Harriet, which the Duchess chose to wear.

For men there is the Vanguard, Dusty, the Ranger and the Country Traveller.
