A GOLD Coast eatery has come up with a dessert treat just right for winter — deep-fried Magnum ice-cream.
And thanks to a plant-based push, the decadent delight is also vegan.
The dairy-free almond Magnums, coated in a crunchy batter, have already been a hit in Sydney, and Milky Lane director Christian Avant says he expects the same will happen at the Surfers Paradise store.

“We’ve had a fantastic response (so far),” he said of the latest treat.
“We just try and step away from the stereotypes that they (vegans) want boring plain food. A lot of people think they still just eat salad.”
Mr Avant said the original batter was modified by swapping out egg for coconut cream and Arnott’s Arrowroot biscuits with Nice biscuits instead.

After the ice cream is deep-fried, it is slathered in chocolate sauce.
Mr Avant believes the vegan version is difficult to differentiate from the original version.
But even though he hints the dessert might stay on the menu permanently, at the moment it’s only available until the end of the month.
