A Gold Coast restaurant have taken their love of plants — and plant-based eating — to the next level by creating a vegan dessert of, well, a pot plant.

THIS cute pot plant is no decoration.

Instead, it’s a delectable dessert.

Chef Jared Peck and partner Vian Wu recently brought out their aptly named “pot plant dessert” at their Miami restaurant Doko Demo V — and it’s been a hit with customers ever since.

“It looks like a piece of art,” Mr Peck said.

“But it tastes even better. People always want to take a photo of it.”

Mr Peck said the idea came to life after he and Ms Wu went to Taiwan, gaining inspiration from the unique menu items they sampled there.

They then combined it with Ms Wu’s love of plants to create the plant-based dessert.

While Mr Peck couldn’t reveal his secret to how he got his plant’s “gravel” so realistic, he said the dessert was ice-cream based.

And customers could expect the crunchy “soil” topping and ice-cream’s delicious flavours of chocolate and caramel to combine, before it would “melt in your mouth”.

“It took about two weeks to get it right,” Mr Peck said.

“We played around with the pot as well, though you can’t eat it. We played around with 10 to 15 different dessert flavours … until we got it perfect.”

Mr Peck said the plant itself was a homegrown herb or edible flower they grew on site.

The dessert costs $7.
