A NEW Taco Bell is under construction on a major Gold Coast arterial road.

The new drive-through restaurant is on Southport’s Ferry Road and is expected to be open later this year.

Work is moving quickly with the first signage going up late last week.

The US Mexican-themed chain is new to the city, having opened its first outlet at Robina late last year.

The Gold Coast Bulletin revealed in October last year that the site would be redeveloped to become a fast food eatery.

It was put forward by leading fast food franchisee, Collins Restaurants Management – whose brands include Taco Bell, KFC and Sizzlers.

It is just the latest fast food eatery to appear on Ferry Road.

A development application was also filed late last month to build a new KFC restaurant on the street.

Planned for the former site of Scotty’s Trading Post, the drive-through Kentucky Fried Chicken eatery is part of a mixed-use project which will soon rise on the corner of Zircon Ave.

The Gold Coast City Council approved a redevelopment of the site in December 2017.

The new KFC will sit just metres away from a Hungry Jacks and McDonalds, both of which are within some of the city’s busiest service stations.

The Gold Coast has a long-running love affair with fast food, having been the location of Queensland’s first McDonalds back in 1975.
