A major Gold Coast street is on track to become the city’s fast food mecca, with two new restaurants on the cards, including a new KFC.

A MAJOR Gold Coast arterial road is on track to become the city’s fast food mecca, with two new restaurants on the cards.

A development application has been filed to build a new KFC on Southport’s Ferry Road.

Planned for the former site of Scotty’s Trading Post, the drive-through Kentucky Fried Chicken eatery is part of a mixed-use project which will soon rise on the corner of Zircon Ave.

WHEN $9M SUPERYACHT BERTH WILL OPEN

The Gold Coast City Council approved a redevelopment of the site in December 2017.

However, new plans filed recently request the removal of the largest proposed commercial tenancy to allow for the fast food restaurant to be added.

The new KFC will sit just metres away from a Hungry Jacks and McDonalds, both of which are within some of the city’s busiest service stations.

A third fast food restaurant, believed to be a Taco Bell, is under construction less than 200m away on a former car rental lot.

The Gold Coast Bulletin revealed in October last year that one of the world’s leading fast food franchisees, Collins Restaurants Management – whose brands included Taco Bell, KFC and Sizzlers – was planning a new drive-through restaurant on the site.

Collins is a Brisbane-based company which is the owner of Sizzlers in Australia, Taco Bell and more than 226 KFC stores across the country and in Europe.

Construction began last month and the restaurant’s frame has been completed.
