ONE of the Gold Coast’s oldest second-hand stores has a new lease on life after moving to new premises in Bundall.
Scottys Trading Post has moved to 117 Ashmore Rd after 34 years at 45 Ferry Rd in Southport.
The new premises occupy a site next to Super Amart Furniture and near Benowa Tavern.
Owner Murray Alderson, whose family took over the business in 1984, said the move was prompted by the redevelopment of the site at 45 Ferry Rd.
Mr Alderson said the store, which sells a range of second-hand goods including furniture, electrical and household goods, has outlasted many other second-hand operations because of strong customer relationships.

A number of its competitors have seen their trade wiped out by web-based second-hand trading platforms.
“We have been the main second-hand store on the Gold Coast for more than 30 years,” he said.
“When we started there were 20 and that has dropped to just a handful.
“The majority of our clients are repeat customers that we see day in and day out.
“All these people we have been dealing with for 10, 20 years, and they know what to expect from us.”
Mr Alderson said the new premises, while smaller at 353sq m compared to 520sq m at Ferry Rd, are more modern and enable a tidier display out the front.
Scottys has taken a three-year lease with two three-year options on the Ashmore Rd premises at $200sq m gross.
Mr Alderson said, since moving into the premises last week, trade hasn’t missed a beat.
“Trade has continued to be strong since we moved, it has not dropped off,” he said.
