A Gold Coast business titan has cheated death after breaking his back and being knocked out in a horror jet ski accident.

A GOLD Coast business titan has cheated death after breaking his back and being knocked out in a horror Easter jet ski accident.

Goldsteins Bakery figurehead Frank Goldstein, 75, yesterday revealed he was the victim of a shocking Easter jet ski mishap at Runaway Bay on April 21 but now he’s on the mend.

Mr Goldstein was spending the long Easter weekend with his brother John Goldstein, 81, when he diced with death as they tried to launch a jet ski outside John’s home.

Frank told the Bulletin yesterday: “(The jet ski) started in gear. It works like a motorbike handle on each side.

“Somehow the handle had been drawn in and was on full power. When the jet ski started it took off like a rocket.

“I saw the jet ski move from underneath me. As far as I know I ended up on the jetty. I’m lucky I didn’t end up in the water,” Frank said.

His brother was unharmed but Frank was rushed to hospital after the 11.30am accident.

Frank said he “doesn’t remember a thing”.

“I woke up in hospital. I knew nothing about what happened,” he said.

“It was like turning a computer on and off. Somehow (doctors) must have switched me back on again and everything was still there.

“That’s the amazing part. How did they do it? You lose consciousness and everything and all of a sudden it’s back again. I’m very grateful.”

Frank spent a month in hospital recovering but three months on says he’s on the mend though still shocked about what happened.

Jumping onto a jet ski isn’t unusual for the veteran whose family started the city’s famed pie shop and bakery empire.

The Goldstein brothers had planned to jet ski to a Stradbroke Island property for Easter Sunday.

Now he’s vowing to never get on a jetski again.

Asked what his brother said after the incident, Frank said he only responded by saying he was sorry.

“We had only just made up from a silly 20-year argument about certain things that don’t count when you get older,” he said.

This isn’t the first time Frank has dodged death — when he was 44 he had a bypass surgery due to a genetic condition.

Mr Goldstein parents Julius and Paula started the iconic pie shop in 1944.

Frank continues to run the family-owned business alongside his two sons Joshua and Martin, and the Goldsteins name is attached to 12 bakery locations stretched across the city.
