A Gold Coast actor has traded in his role as polished militant character on a New York TV show for rough and rugged acting gig that will be filmed on the Gold Coast.

LUKE Mitchell has traded in his role as a polished militant character on a New York TV show for a rough and rugged acting gig that will be filmed in South East Queensland.
The former Gold Coaster, 34, has returned for the first time in 10 years after scoring himself a lead role in a new feature film Black Water: Abyss.
Filming started in Brisbane yesterday and will be making its way to Nerang in June.

“My eyes lit up when I was talking to my manager about this movie. He said they wanted to shoot on the Gold Coast,” Mr Mitchell said.
“To get to come back here 10 years after my first job is pretty cool. I have family here.”
He will be staying on the Gold Coast part time, the rest in Brisbane, for the next five weeks. Afterwards, he is expecting to head back to New York for season two of The Cove, if renewed.

Asked if he would permanently move back to the Gold Coast, Mr Mitchell said: “Absolutely. I always will be.”
“At the end of the day I want to keep acting. I will either be heading back to LA or New York, unless another Australian job comes up.”
Director and Producer team Andrew Traucki and Michael Robertson will join with producers Neal Kingston and Pam Collis to deliver the “adrenaline charged” sequel to the 2007 feature ‘Black Water’.
Mr Mitchell will star as Eric with co-star Jessica McNamee as Jennifer. The pair abseil into a cave after a dangerous storm hits, leaving them and a group of friends to battle to stay alive from a pack of hungry crocodiles.
