Gold Coast council officers struggle to catch goat

GOLD Coast council officials are trying to track down the owner of a stray goat which was running amok in Upper Coomera earlier today.

Witness Dean Shelton said the goat created quite a stir among residents along Rix Drive in Upper Coomera and it took three council officers, attending media and locals to corner it.

RSPCA FURY AS GOAT SUBJECTED TO AGONISING DEATH

Mr Shelton, who told the Bulletin he wasn’t kidding, said he received a call about the goat being on the loose and about the same time was told of pigs roaming free in Hope Island.

“I was like ‘Are you kidding me? Pigs on the loose in Hope Island and a goat on the loose in Coomera?’.

Three City of Gold Coast Animal Management officers attended the goat situation.

“There were also media camera men and about four members of the public trying to corral this goat,” Mr Shelton said.

“As soon as they approached it would run away up and down the street. Councill staff were knocking on doors asking ‘Do you mind if we use your backyard to corral it?’

“Finally one of them caught it around the leg.”

A council spokesperson said its animal management officials raced to the scene in Upper Coomera “after they became aware of a goat which had been wandering across roads”.

“Officers humanely captured the goat for his own safety, as well as for local road users and pedestrians, and transported it to the city pound. The goat is currently in the care of the City while efforts are made to identify and locate the owner.”

The City hoped to reunite the goat with its owner and was encouraging anyone with information to contact the City on 1300 465 326.

The City received numerous requests each year for wandering animals including goats, cows, pigs, horses and other stock, a spokesman said.
