WHEN there’s a deadline, journalists make it happen — and Amanda Abate’s five-month engagement turnaround is a prime example.

The Gold Coast 7 News reporter is due to wed her longtime partner and digital media expert Brent Beauchamp today after he popped the question in April this year.

“It’s a bit of luck — we got really lucky with the venue, we already knew about it,” Ms Abate said.

“Brent works with a lot of media people and so do I, we found our MC Rod McCleod from Gold FM, Ian Cousins will be the celebrant.

“I know photographers, we know DJs — it all came together really easily. It’s been smooth sailing.

“We’ve kept it pretty simple as well. It’ll be a casual, relaxed sort of wedding.”

Ms Abate said the only thing left to finalise is her wedding dress — but it should be in her hands any day now.

“You need about five months if you’re getting a dress made for them to turn it around,” she said.

“I’ve kept it pretty simple and comfortable as well, we’re in the garden so I didn’t want a really long train or anything to contend with, but it will still be a little bit special.”

While live crosses, royal tours and interviewing Justin Bieber couldn’t unravel Ms Abate, she says the thought of making her wedding debut is daunting.

“As calm as I’m trying to be, I have a feeling I’ll be quite nervous walking down the aisle. There’s such a big build up,” Ms Abate said.

“(I’m looking forward to) the moment when you walk into reception and all the formalities are over and you can have a good time.”
