THIS time last year Gold Coast couple Becki Munro and Beau Webster didn’t know if they would still be able to plan for their future together, let alone a wedding.

Diagnosed with stage 3 bowel cancer the 29-year-old tradie and father of two, Beau was forced to put life and his upcoming marriage to Becki on hold as he battled the aggressive disease, and 12 gruelling rounds of chemo.

Now thanks to the help of their friends and family and the Miami Marketta they will finally be able to say, ‘I do’.

It was January last year when the young active couple’s lives changed forever.

That month they had first discovered they would be having their second child.

Ecstatic about the pregnancy, and ready for her first check-up Ms Munro thought nothing of booking another appointment at the doctors for her fiancee of three years.

“He (Beau) was having some stomach trouble, but being a typical male he didn’t do anything about it,” Ms Munro said.

“I thought while I was there for my check-up he could come and get checked at the same time.”

Little did they know Becki’s decision may have saved her partner’s life.

An examination by the doctor revealed a concerning growth in Mr Webster’s stomach, resulting in a stage three bowel cancer diagnosis just a week later.

The diagnosis was devastating to the plumber, who lost his cousin under similar circumstances.

“It was horrible when we were told, I didn’t know what we would do as Beau ran his own business,” Becki said.

“I think we were in disbelief, they told us the cancer had then gone into the wall of his stomach.

“He was really, really angry at the time he thought I am too young to get this, no one deserves it.”

What followed was a surgery to remove 80 per cent of Beau’s large intestine.

While enduring chemo Beau continued to work nearly every day to hold onto their family home.

Becki looked after her eldest and prepared for the couple’s second child.

On the day of his final chemo treatment, baby Cleo was born.

A year later the family are finding their feet again and with Beau in remission they have more than one thing to celebrate.

Thanks to the votes of family and friends they found out they will finally be able to tie the knot, taking out top spot in the ‘Marry me at Marketta’ competition.

The Miami Marketta competition, who announced its winners over the weekend gave one lucky couple a wedding at The Gin Parlour valued at up to 20K.

Becki said she was in shock when she found out they had won.

“When I saw it announced online I had to keep reading and re-reading that we had won,” Becki said.

“Beau had only just been given the all clear two months ago with the cancer, so it has come at a great time.

“We had been engaged for three years but could never financially do it with all that was going on.

“We were just holding onto things as is, let alone introducing a wedding.

“I think it just shows we can get through everything together, hard times and good times.

“Now we realise just how lucky we will be to celebrate with the special people in our lives.”
