STAR Entertainment Group is promising that the Gold Coast and Brisbane will increasingly host the hottest names in sport, business and film as its luxury hotel brands come on stream.

Star is building Australia’s first Dorsett hotel at Broadbeach while The Rosewood and Ritz Carlton are coming to Brisbane as part of its $3.6 billion Queens Wharf integrated resort project.

Star Entertainment Group CEO Matt Bekier said the high-end brands would help secure southeast Queensland’s reputation as a world-class tourism and entertainment area.

Mr Bekier said the mega-resort style of their buildings and hotels would put the area on the map for “some serious star-spotting”.

“Our mega-resort developments will feature these luxury hotels and help attract major events which, in turn, will entice some of the world’s biggest names in entertainment, sport and business sectors,” Mr Bekier said.

“The Rosewood, The Ritz Carlton, and The Dorsett are famous for their exclusive locations, stylish and unique architecture, stunning internal fit-outs, world-class facilities, impeccable service, and the legendary guests they attract.”

Overseas, the hotels have seen the likes of Uma Thurman, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Hudson, Nicole Kidman, British royalty, Justin Beiber, Ellie Goulding and Martha Stewart pass through their doors.

Star, through its consortium partner Chow Tai Fook Enterprises, has links to 60 hotels worldwide via Rosewood Group and third-party brands Four Seasons, Hyatt and Marriott.

The Dorsett is one of the most popular hotels in Asia and will be part of the third tower now under construction at Star’s Broadbeach Island site.

It is expected to be completed in early 2022 and is part of the $2b masterplan which envisages a further four towers during the next eight to 10 years.

The build is part of group’s multimillion-dollar investment into the tourist hub, something Mr Bekier said was a sign of confidence in the area.

But he has always added the caveat that it depends on the competitive environment in future as State Government weighs up testing the market for a second Gold Coast gaming resort.

“We have invested billions of dollars and are investing billions more to develop global tourism destinations that can compare with the best in the world,” Mr Bekier said.

“Acknowledging the need for more supply, and having confidence in a strong and sustainable future for our tourism industry, underpins our development strategy.”

World-class events The Star has already partnered with — bringing star power and royalty to the Gold Coast — include last year’s Commonwealth Games, TV’s Logies Awards night and The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions.

“Our vision is to be Australia’s leading integrated resort company and our plans for Brisbane and the Gold Coast are completely aligned with that positioning,” Mr Bekier said.
