Hundreds of jobs are up for grabs as the city’s best hotels try to keep pace with an influx of visitors post-pandemic.
The Star Gold Coast, The Langham, QT and JW Marriott are on the hunt for staff after a bumper Easter period.
Destination Gold Coast CEO Patricia O’Callaghan said while there were “employment challenges impacting every sector across the country”, the city’s tourism sector was rebounding strongly.
“We have 3000 rooms either under construction or completed and this hiring spree is a positive sign of things to come.”
Ms O’Callaghan said tourism officials were “finding strategies to not just attract visitors but retain them”.
“There are challenges in the short term but accommodation providers are doing everything they can to manage the huge influx of travellers we’ve seen in such a short amount of time.
“Occupancy rates over the Easter period were the highest since before the pandemic, around 85 per cent.”

She said tourism officials were in talks with the federal government to expedite the return of overseas workers.
“The backpacker market was a huge part of our workforce and the visa process can be quite challenging, so we are looking at where we can assist in those areas.”
The Star Gold Coast chief operating officer Jess Mellor said hundreds of positions were available across the company’s events, food and beverage and hotel team.
“Everything from frontline to corporate,” she said.
“There’s been pent-up demand and we have been thrilled to welcome back interstate visitors and now the return of events and conferences.
“We’re also focusing on attracting people with strong leadership skills not necessarily with hospitality experience as we continue to expand our property as part of our $2b masterplan.”
Luxury hotel The Langham have advertised close to 100 new jobs at Jewel in Surfers Paradise.
They include guest services, housekeeping, food and beverage and conferences and events.
The Langham Gold Coast general manager John O’Shea said workers could expect “a host of attractive benefits, including flexible working environment, international complimentary night stays, additional personal leave days, prioritising mental health days, and a culture that focuses on team celebrations and employee achievement awards”.
Langham HR director Briony Low said the roles advertised were a “perfect opportunity for a sea change or a fresh start from other states”.
