A prominent Lone Wolf bikie with a lengthy criminal rap sheet is in custody over an incident that left a member of a rival gang in a coma in hospital.

A 30-year-old man, believed to be a senior Comanchero bikie, was found unresponsive in a high-rise unit in Como Cres, Southport, on Thursday morning.

Paramedics found the man unconscious and vomiting before he was rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital where he has been placed in an induced coma.

He sustained a minor facial injury, but police are trying to determine whether the wounds were caused in an assault or a fall.

A quantity of dangerous drugs was allegedly found at the property and police are interviewing the occupants.

A heavily-tattooed Lone Wolf bikie with a history of violence was taken into custody at the scene and was helping police with their inquiries, but no charges have been laid so far.

Officers from the bikie-busting Taskforce Maxima are involved in the investigation.

EARLIER: Police are investigating whether a man suffering facial injuries, believed to be a senior bikie, was left unconscious after an assault or a drug related fall on the Gold Coast.

Initially, it was reported the man, understood to be a high-ranking member of the Comanchero outlaw motorcycle gang, was bashed and suffered a head injury in the vicinity of the Meriton at Southport.

However, inquiries by Gold Coast police – and the alleged discovery of drugs in a Southport unit – have shed more light on the situation.

“Police are investigating after they were called to an unresponsive man at a Southport unit block this morning,” a police spokeswoman said.

“Emergency services were called to Como Crescent (at Southport) around 7.30am with reports of a man unconscious, vomiting, with a facial injury.

“He was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious condition, where he was placed in an induced coma.

“Subsequent information indicates that the man’s facial injury is minor.

“A search of the property located a quantity of dangerous drugs.”

The occupants of the unit have been “assisting police with inquiries”.

Investigations continue into whether the man’s injuries were the result of a drug-related fall, “or if an assault took place”.
