Tourism operators are hopping for joy over the booming Easter holiday period trade, which has seen at least 21,000 visitors per day flood into the city.

Village Roadshow Theme Parks chief operating officer Bikash Randhawa said he was “overjoyed” trade was on the up, and expressed relief over the “extremely strong” visitor numbers.

“It feels like we are somewhat back to normal. It’s busy and really amazing to see so many people out and about,’ he said.

He said since mandates had lifted, ”guest experience had improved dramatically” and was “more seamless”.

However, he said the Gold Coast’s tourism leaders still had some legwork to do in cementing the city as the world’s leading tourism destination.

“It’s not a set and forget. We cannot take our eyes off the ball,” he said.

Aquaduck general manager Sarah Colgate said both Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast tours had completely sold out over the Easter holidays, and the booming trade was a “huge step forward” in recovering Queensland’s covid-impacted tourism industry.

And despite the odd smattering of cloud cover and some rain, locals and tourists alike were chuffed to be out and about enjoying a mostly sunny weekend up and down the Coast.
